Data Science & Artificial Intelligence

Why study Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DSAI)?

The DS&AI Master’s at TU/e combines advanced engineering, machine learning, and data science to build intelligent, high-impact systems. Our programme is the only engineering master’s in the Netherlands that brings together the full depth of both data science and AI. Whether your interests lie in process mining (invented right here at TU/e), visual analytics, machine learning, or knowledge integration, DS&AI gives you the freedom to create your own path. You will be guided by world-leading researchers and embedded in a region known for innovation. As a DS&AI graduate, you won’t just be fluent in Python or know your way around a neural network. You’ll be an engineer who can connect data to meaning, AI to impact, and research to innovation.

Three unique strengths

The Master's in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at TU/e stands out for several key reasons:

  • Integrated Expertise: Our programme is the only engineering master’s in the Netherlands to combine the full depth of both data science and AI. This integrated approach ensures you develop a comprehensive skillset.
  • Ethical and Social Focus: This programme is more than just about technology. With a dedicated focus on AI in context, you’ll learn to recognise ethical, social, and domain-specific challenges and design solutions that are fair, transparent, and sustainable.
  • Research and Innovation: You will be guided by world-leading researchers and embedded in a region known for innovation. This environment allows you to contribute to cutting-edge research and collaborate with a vibrant ecosystem of high-tech companies.

Connection with semiconductors industry

The Data Science and Artificial Intelligence programme has a strong connection to the semiconductor industry. The immense volume of data generated during the semiconductor manufacturing process, from wafer fabrication to chip testing, requires sophisticated AI and data science techniques for analysis and optimisation. Skills in areas like Algorithmic Data Analysis and Data Management and Engineering are crucial for improving yields, predicting failures, and enhancing efficiency in chip production. The proximity to high-tech companies like ASML provides unique opportunities to apply your knowledge to real-world challenges within this vital industry.

Programme structure

You have the freedom to create your own path by choosing from a range of specialisations to match your interests. The programme provides a strong foundation in core concepts while allowing you to specialise in a specific area.

“During my studies, I joined a selective extracurricular program and worked on an energy transition project, gaining hands-on experience and connecting with industry.”
